Sculptra® Aesthetic
Facial Sculpting with Long-Lasting Sculptra®
Sculptra® Aesthetic is an innovative and effective form of anti-aging treatment that helps replace and stimulate collagen that is loss due to aging. It’s estimated that after age 20 we lose about 1% of our body’s collagen each year. The boosting of collagen production in the skin is important as it is essential for a smooth and youthful facial appearance. Think of putting more air in a balloon that is slowly deflating. But instead of air, Sculptra® stimulates one’s own body to grow new collagen under the skin thereby increasing the skin’s foundation.
Sculptra® is used to correct shallow-to-deep depressions and folds on the face.1 Sculptra is clinically approved for:
- Slender or hollow faces when more structure is desired
- Week cheek foundation
- Deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds)
- Creases framing the mouth (marionette lines)
We do not use Sculptra® around the eyes nor in the lips. It is placed in the deep tissue and is not intended to be used for more shallow lines and wrinkles.
Sculptra® is FDA-approved in the United States and has been used worldwide since 1999. Dr. Donn Chatham finds that Sculptra® Aesthetic provides optimal results to restore and/or correct the signs of facial fat loss by restoring volume. Sculptra® Aesthetic is a dermal filler that works by increasing one’s own collagen which can help tighten skin of the cheeks and along the jawline. Using Sculptra® properly requires an artistic touch and an appreciation of facial anatomy and its use is regulated by requiring special oversight by its manufacturer.
If you’re considering a non-surgical facial filler that will improve poor structure or hollowing and depression of the face, we invite you to speak with Dr. Chatham and our aesthetic professional staff to see if Sculptra® is right for you. During your consultation with Dr. Chatham, he will discuss your anti-aging and facial renewal goals and recommend the appropriate facial filler product or products to achieve your facial cosmetic goals.
How Does Sculptra® Aesthetic Work?
Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable collagen stimulator uses microparticles of poly-l-lactic (PLLA-SCA) to help restore facial skin structure. Sculptra® injections help reinforce the structure of your skin by replacing lost collagen. It differs from some other fillers in that Sculptra® works by gradually, slowly, and subtly adding volume and structure to the face. Sculptra® Aesthetic is FDA-approved to restore facial volume and also improve skin support and help correct fine lines and wrinkles. Over a series of monthly sessions, one can build up the desired result without appearing too different too quickly.
Sculptra® is the first and original FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA) facial injectable that targets aging due to collagen loss, gradually helping restore skin structure and volume fat, especially in the cheeks and around the eyes.
Sculptra® Aesthetic is an injectable filler designed to add volume to your face and is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material. Because it isn’t made from human or animal sources, Sculptra® does not require a skin test. The poly-L-lactic acid in Sculptra® stimulates your own body’s collagen production—the building blocks to fuller, more youthful-looking skin. Sculptra® does not yield immediate results as optimal results appear gradually over a period of a few months.
Who Is A Candidate For Sculptra® Aesthetic?
Individuals who would like to address the following facial concerns, may benefit from Sculptra® Aesthetic:
- Deep lines extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds or smile lines)
- Lines extending downwards from the corners of the mouth (marionette lines)
- Hollows or depressions in the skin, such as sunken cheeks and poor jawline structure
A numbing medication may be added to the Sculptra® which helps reduce soreness, but most patients find the injections very tolerable, and the entire process is fairly rapid. The number of Sculptra® sessions varies from person to person depending on age and facial architecture. On average we estimate about 1 vial per decade of age, but this can vary. Sessions are spaced about 4 weeks apart for optimal control.
How Long Does Sculptra® Last?
Sculptra® is one of the longer lasting filler options and may last for up to 2 years. The treatment sessions are spaced apart so the effects slowly build and once discontinued, will slowly fade – but not rapidly. Facial structure slowly returns to its original form and does worsen because of having had an injectable filler.
