Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a popular non-invasive treatment for the face that targets various skin concerns such as redness, enlarged pores, and rosacea. We have many satisfied patients who are happy with the results of IPL as it effectively reduces these skin issues and improves overall skin tone and texture. Additionally, IPL subtly stimulates collagen production, resulting in firmer and more youthful-looking skin. This gentle, yet powerful treatment is a favorite among individuals looking to achieve a smoother, clearer complexion without the need for downtime or surgery.
“Results are amazing and well worth it! Dr Chatham is beyond wonderful. Gives his honest opinion and is professional. I did laser for rosacea management and have done two treatments thus far after failing oral and topical treatments. Results are amazing and well worth it! Highly recommend”

Real patient of Dr. ChathamAsk Dr. Donn Chatham, double board-certified facial plastic surgeon if a photo-facial or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment can help you achieve a healthy and radiant complexion.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) reduces unwanted vascular redness as well as some age spots (browns) without disrupting the skin’s surface. A variety of skin conditions can be treated to help restore your skin’s appearance including some of the following skin concerns:
- Unwanted ruddiness/redness of face or chest
- Reduce the appearance of sun damage
- Fades sunspots and freckling
- Rosacea redness
- Red spider veins
IPL may also be used to remove unwanted hair on your face (chin and upper lip) and body if it is ‘dark’ hair (not blonde or white).
Chatham Facial Plastic Surgery utilizes several laser and/or light therapies, including, Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing, Prolite Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), and Varilight and Diolite lasers in helping rejuvenate the skin of our patients. Ask Dr. Chatham which laser/light procedure is best for you as there are many different types, and it can be confusing to understand all of them.
During your personal consultation with Dr. Donn Chatham, he will examine your skin and discuss your concerns, to recommend non-surgical laser and/or light procedures that will produce optimal, long-lasting results.

The Prolite Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses a powerful broad-spectrum light which produces a beam about the size of a postage stamp that targets red vessels, brown spots, sun-damaged skin, and pores to help even skin color and tone.
The Prolite IPL produces a larger spot (12 x 6 mm) of energy (light & heat) to help improve color, pores, and is an excellent rosacea treatment. It produces more heat than the Diolite and covers larger areas in a shorter time. A topical numbing cream helps reduce discomfort, but not everyone needs it. Sessions are fairly quick, taking only minutes. Over several days, redness lightens, and overall, the treated skin looks better.
“I first met Dr. Chatham for my rosacea & telangiectasia. I absolutely love that he does the laser treatments himself. He’s the most humble & compassionate doctor I have ever came across in my lifetime. His integrity by far makes him stand out from the rest. He genuinely wants you to feel good about yourself and will give you his honest opinion. (He’s a “straight shooter.”) He has gained my trust & my loyalty as a patient. Also, his staff is exceptional & makes you feel comfortable. They do their best to get you in for an appointment and value each person as a patient but above all as a human being.”

Real patient of Dr. ChathamUsually a series of these (3 or 4) are performed, and a gradual improvement in color and brightness occurs. Temporary shrinkage of pores occurs as well, which may help reduce acne.
Dr. Donn R. Chatham explains that there is no downtime associated with this. Sometimes an anesthetic cream is used before a treatment to help with comfort. This can also be carefully used on the chest and other skin areas to improve sun-damage and unwanted pigment.
Does the Prolite Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Only Treat Skin?
No, Dr. Chatham also recommends IPL for hair reduction for unwanted facial hair (chin, upper lip) and other areas where hair is a problem and can improve over time and shrink hair follicles This works best on brunette and black hair but not so well on white or blonde hair.
